What is Composite Dentistry?
Modern composites make metal mouth disappear.
You might have a silver or gold filling or two. But that’s the past.
Composite dentistry is not a new technique, but only a percentage of you out there might know really what they are. Basically, composites are used for fillings, caps, dental crowns, and other situations (like a chipped tooth) that restore the natural shape and look of a tooth that has been damaged.
A dental composite restores the natural shape of the tooth.
When cavities occur, they ‘set up’ the tooth for further damage. That means your mouth is prone to further problems. Composite dentistry secures that your teeth function and look natural.
It restores and enhances your natural smile.
Children (and adults) don’t want to be teased about their teeth, and a dental compsite makes it almost impossible to tell the difference. Dental composites are mixed to match the color of your existing teeth, and so there is no noticeable difference.
It gives you the same or better wear strength.
Composite fillings allow us to imitate nature; color, shape, and smile line can all be exactly duplicated.
| Metal | Composite | |
| Corrosion | can occur | no corrosion |
| Color matching | cannot be matched to current teeth | perfect color matching |
| Small cavities | cannot be used | especially suited for small cavities |
| Allergies | can occur | no allergies |
| Expense | standard costs apply | often less expensive |
