Disease Treatment

You can’t cure it, but you can slow the process.

And sometimes, you can even reverse the damage done.

Did you know…

That there is a definite link between bone loss and peridontal disease? Bleeding gums are an indicator. There is even new evidence that there is a link between some types of heart disease (like a heart attack) or stroke, and Alheimer’s disease!

If you have it, you’re at risk.

If you have Peridontal disease, you have more of a chance of these types of diseases that previously were not thought to have any connection to dental problems. Managing your gum disease can give you…

  • Greater overall health. We’ve found that it’s not just gum health, but bone health.
  • Keeps you from losing teeth. Think of your parents or grandparents – did they have all of their teeth? Probably not. That shows that this happens over a lifetime where you lose the bone, the bone becomes less of an anchor. Then dentures are used, to replace the teeth that are missing.

Why choose US for your peridontal disease management?

We take a special interest in our teeth cleanings; it’s not just about polishing the teeth that are visible, but also cleaning the deeper areas where bacteria grows, that causes bone loss. What bone has been lost is gone – but you can grow back tissue, and that protects the existing bone you still have.

That’s why we’re very vigilant about cleaning your teeth regularly – it prevents peridontal disease.

We take a full hour to clean the teeth, and thoroughly check all danger areas. Every year, we take x-rays and do a full inspection.

Our steps.

  • Examination. First we check the entire mouth for disease with a periodontal probe, which checks the height of the gum to the bone.
  • Cleaning. Then once we’ve determined that there is a problem, we initially clean the teeth, getting most of the ‘barnacles’ of calcium deposits that hold the bacteria inside.
  • Deeper cleaning under the gums. If it warrants it, a deep cleaning under the gums is performed.
  • We then create a maintenance program for you. We put you on a periodontal maintenance program with regular checkups. At first, we see you at shorter intervals, and remedicate the sulcus and calculus to ensure that no additional bacteria has cropped up, and take out any areas that have grown again.

More information on peridontal disease.

What is it, exactly?

Periodontal disease is an infection of the tissues that support your teeth. Your gum tissue is not attached to the teeth as high as it may seem. There is a very shallow v-shaped crevice called a sulcus between the tooth and gums. Periodontal diseases attack just below the gum line in the sulcus, where they cause the attachment of the tooth and its supporting tissues to break down. As the tissues are damaged, the sulcus develops into a pocket: generally, the more severe the disease, the greater the depth of the pocket.

Of course, the best method of treatment is preventative treatment; have regular checkups and the dentist will catch many problems before they become big problems.

But nobody’s perfect, and sometimes peridontal disease creeps in.

Periodontal gum disease can go on for months and years with no pain. Specific examination procedures must be performed in order to detect it. In many cases, simple visual examination will not catch it until in advanced stages. Much of the damage that is done cannot be reversed.

The procedure is simple, painless, and fast.

Come in today if you have any of these symptoms:

  • bleeding gums
  • redness of gum
  • swelling of gums
  • bad breath
  • receding gums
  • mobility of teeth

The point is to catch it before peridontal disease really begins to do damage. After that, preventative dentistry is the key!
